Parking Garages Lighting Recommendations

Printer-friendly versionSend by emailPDF version

Parking garages often have inefficient lighting and are sometimes considered a dangerous, dim place. A better looking garage with quality lighting will attract more customers and make them feel safe. The most efficient solution is fluorescent lighting offering a higher CRI and longer lamp life than HID’s, at a lower operating cost.

The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) offers specific recommendations. Many facilities are designed to 5 foot-candles. It is important to determine where light is needed in the garage. Drivers and pedestrians must be able to see when maneuvering through the garage. We recommend our VCT Series for a wide, even distribution of light. For facilities wanting to achieve the highest possible light levels, we recommend our VHB Series.
